Which is better to live in St. Paul, Minneapolis or suburbs?

I'm a young single professional that will be working near the capitol in St. Paul. I'm moving from a small town out of state and have never lived in a large city before. Living near work is important to me as I have dogs and would like to be able to run home during lunch. But people have been telling me I should live in Minneapolis because it's a lot more fun.
