Does going on benefits stop or hinder your chances of getting into the armed forces?

i hope to join the Royal Marine Commandos (British) next year but at the moment i have to find a job for the next 12 months, at the moment i cant get a job because there isnt much available although im looking all the time. iv heard that going on the benefits system can ruin your chances of getting in the forces so for the moment i have not gone onto the system but now my dad is forcing me to go on benefits even though from what iv heard and what i have subsequently told him this could destroy my chances of getting in the marines. please i need someone to tell me truthfully whether or not going on benefits will ruin my chances of getting in, i will be very grateful to anyone that is helpful.
